New work from David Smith (who made the Born and Raised cover for John Mayer). Here he was commissioned by Kings of Leon to create the cover for their record “Beautiful War”.
Saul Bass Logos
While researching typographers and graphic designers for this history project, one of my favorites I came across was Wolfgang Weingart; and not just because of this picture. I really appreciate his rebellious spirit and the way he thinks outside the box with his designs, and not just in the designs themselves but how he manipulated the printers and things in ways they weren’t supposed to be used to get a different effect in his pieces. I really appreciate how he learned all the rules and techniques of Swiss design, then said fuck it, this is just too boring, I’m going to do my own thing.
Typography has one plain duty before it and that is to convey information in writing. No argument or consideration can absolve typography from this duty.

“Homeless & Helvetica”
Bauhaus Typography:
Effective visual communication was a main focus when designing. You will see a balanced layout, vibrant colors, harmony, geometric shapes strong bars, bold and universal type. Using upper case or lower case fonts, but not a combination of the two, the typeset was clear and concise. The type was laid out in various ways. In addition to being horizontal and vertical orientation, Bauhaus is well-known for placing text at angles and also wrapping text around objects.
